GOLDEN BROWN KENTISH COBNUTS

The Kentish Cobnut (Corylus), Lambert's Filbert.

This nut is a variety of the hazel nut. A large oval shaped nut traditionally grown in Kent since the 1800s. Production peaked in 1913 when there were over 7000 acres of cobnut plats. Sadly today only approximately 250 acres are commercially grown.

At Farnell Farm we planted a cobnut plat of 600 trees in the winter of 1999-2000 with the help of the Countryside Stewardship Scheme. The trees are planted in a traditional quinox pattern in a four acre field.

All our cobnuts are naturally grown without the use of fertiliser, pesticides or chemical sprays.
